MEET THE HOUSE MANAGER
Meet the House Manager
Christina Ramirez is the Program Manager of the first Fisher House to open its doors in the Land of Enchantment. She followed Route 66 from its start at the skyscraper-skyline in Chicago to the balloon-filled skies of Albuquerque almost two years ago to be closer to her parents, who have been living here for the last decade; and her favorite – and only – daughter, who is studying at the University of San Diego. Her mother is a volunteer at the New Mexico VA and her father is proud US Air Force veteran. Christina knows first-hand how important it is to be near loved ones, especially when they are ill, which is one of the many reasons she is so passionate about the Fisher House mission.
Christina has worn many hats throughout her career, all of which have equipped her with the skills to manage a program that pairs a non-profit donation with a government agency. Most recently she was handling budget, finance, and operations for the U.S. Treasury and U.S. Peace Corps offices in Chicago. Prior to that she was a Family Programs Manager for deployed U.S. Army Reservists and a secretary with a U.S. Army Recruiting Company. Before her move to government, she was a Public Relations Officer at St. Martin’s University, near Ft. Lewis, Wash. and a reporter for Gannett and Hearst newspapers in Washington and Texas.
Christina’s educational background includes a BA in Communications from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and an MBA from Walden University in Minnesota. She is also a certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.
As the Fisher House Manager, she manages the local Fisher House Program by:
- Overseeing daily operations of the House
- Managing the budget and operations of the House in a fiscally responsible manner
- Ensuring the House is safe, clean, and free from hazards
- Collaborating with VA staff to ensure referrals are sent from the medical team, and
- Working with community groups and businesses to ensure the needs of guests are met
Her goal in managing the Albuquerque Fisher House is to ensure eligible families feel welcome, cared for, and safe while they are going through a difficult time.
